Welcome to UW–Madison

It’s my pleasure to serve as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. This remarkable university has been my professional home for most of the past forty years, and I continue to be thrilled and invigorated by its many facets.

By any measure, UW–Madison is one of the finest institutions of higher education in the world. Whether you come to study, to work, or simply to visit, you will discover opportunities and resources here that exist nowhere else. Founded in 1848 and the largest of Wisconsin’s state university system, UW–Madison is known for outstanding scholarship in a complete spectrum of academic fields, a vital research program, and a commitment to making our state and our world a better place to live.

With some 40,000 students and a main campus that spans more than 900 acres, we are a big university. But along with the advantages of scale comes a dedication to making your experience here personal — and unforgettable.

Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
